Taken on the Gower peninsula south wales Uk. Some particularly pioneering sheep disappearing off a cliff!!wow a daily deviation thanks to everyone that views this image im taken aback by how popular it is and struggling to keep up with comments. Oh and thanks to Alex [link]

glowworm: those sheep are female. when a male mates with them, well u know, the guys put their bodies on top of the females, so that the blue mark goes to the ram's (male's) fleece, specifying that this ram has already mated. its a shepherd's way to determine which males are the fittest and most active. (im not sure, it could go the other way round...with the ram having the marking on his belly first...)

hi and thanks for the comment.....the ram has a block of waxy dye fitted to his chest via a harness...when he mates with the female sheep the block rubs on the female sheep's back indicating which ram has mated ............

And glowworm56: I thought that was so the farmer can see which sheep are pregnant. (I know you probably don't call it pregnant with animals, don't know the English word, sorry. You know what I mean.)

The farmer puts it on them to mark which ones are his, I think. Though i'm not sure what they'd do for the black one...
