Raj Kapoor was a visionary who made several noteworthy contributions to Hindi cinema, in his multiple roles as an actor and director. His films captured the charm and essence of India, thereby succeeding in striking a chord with the audiences effortlessly. His acting in early movies was inspired from the mannerisms of none other than the great comedian Charlie Chaplin. Raj Kapoor's movies had melodious songs that are remembered fondly even today. Apart from acting in some classic movies such as Awara, Shri 420, Jis-desh-me-ganga-behti-hai, he also successfully launched all his three sons- Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Rajeev Kapoor. His magnum opus 'Mera Naam Joker' failed commercially but is today remembered as a classic. He clearly had his heart in cinema. Not for nothing is he known as 'The Showman'.
