Description
I thought that I took more pictures of the painting, but I haven't the first steps of the background while they were quite important to see how I did it...
0/1 - You can see top of it how was the Displate before repaint and that true ! I didn't take picture of it, forgot, and between it and step 1, there is loooot of pale grey / white acrylic...
Then, I did more grey/blue paint stains. When all was dry, I used adhesive tape to delimit zones to make this long vertical stripes. I painted on and between them and remove everything immediately after painting (a part of the 'new' background was snatched by the adhesive tape but it was corrected...).
Next, I used acrylic a bit diluted and a small brush to make spray effect with giving little flicks on the brush. Sometime I used my finger to blur them, sometime not, and add also more irregularities on the long stripes.
After that, I added some text approximatively as on the original cover, 'cause I didn't understood every letters.
2/3 - Preparing the stencil of the body of the hybrid soldier. To build it, I printed a big soldier on 3 A4 paper due to the size of my printer and reproduce an entire soldier on a bigger one. Then, I used a kind of 'needle holder' (a strange grandmother sewing tool where you can fixe a needle), because the border of the soldier are irregular. With a scissor, the borders were to hard, to 'perfect'. That was a long step, a bit sore for my hand 'cause I needed to make a pressure to 'dig' the paper without snatch it.
4 - Second big step and very scary, 'cause thing that I've not planned : THE PAPER WAS STUCK WITH THE PAINT !! All little details were also blur 'cause the paint had trough the paper...
5 - Correction of all problem of step 4 and used a big brush and paint without water to make de spay effect in crushing it but not concluding... I planned to get back on it later...
6/7 - Stencils of the wings ! First, I 'cut' them with my needle to get their perfect place around the soldier, and to get the good veins too, I cut (with a scissor) on the main veins, but not on all the line, to get a stencil in one piece, but that I can bend to draw the veins on by one.
8 - Painting the wings ! I was really afraid of the render, 'cause first tests with acrylic were bad, not as precise as I wanted with my brush, so I opted for a white gel pen and it's not too bad...
9/12 - Stencils of the groue name ! It was down on the original Displate, so I kept this place. Alos, I have learned with the body stencil what bad joke can make paper with to much acrylic, so, to preserve absolutely the details, I 'plasticized' my stencil with adhesive tape... and I removed the extra with a cutter 'cause the needle snatched the tape (a dark paper under the stencil was very good to this step, so thanks to that cow !).
The stencil was adjusted on the Displate, black acrylic, and it was very good after removing ! I just was too clean with my painting, the borders and corners were to perfect. Irregularities will be add later.
13/17 - Kinda the same thing for the album name, 'til I realized that it was in reverse... white letters on a black bg... I also used a stencil, first to have the places of the letters, then, I 'plasticized' the letters one by one with simple tape above, double-sided tape under it, and pasted then on their respective place that I maked with a pencil.
I used big bands of tape to made the frame around them and I painted on everything. The frame tape was remove, then the tape-paper letters with a needle before the paint was dry. Letters were not very clean, not very one the same line too, but it was good for me.
18 - Added final details everywhere, and to correct that bad spray effect, I changed my hard brush for an army of toothpicks. You've got my test in pink, and the render on the soldier. I corrected it with grey, then with red.
And you've got all my material on the last picture ! (except the printer)
