Description
A new BJD head progress photo. This one is made to resemble Tom Hiddleston also known as Loki and intended for 65 cm high bodies. Plasticine model took about 20 hrs of work.I posted a draft head here earlier: [link]
Lots of changes were made since. I'd like to say many thanks to people who gave me a lot of great advises so I could improve my work.
If you want to see more progress photos please see them in my blog:
- draft v. 1.0: [link]
- draft v. 2.0: [link]
- draft v. 2.5 after people's comments: [link]
This is my first head ever made to resemble a real person. I'm not a professional and never had classes in arts.

Thank you! Tom has such an interesting face, I tried to do my best! Though his strongest point is showing so much different emotions, this is so hard to catch in the sculpture.

Thanks a lot! Plasticine head is yellow and Apoxie Sculpt head is white. Apoxie one still requires a lot of work to become a master model but the main part is done already.
Honestly, I envy myself too because I discovered this way of making heads only lately. Sephiroth took me about 3 weeks of a hard work just because it was made out of Apoxie from scratch. But from now on my work will be much faster, hurray!

You've done a really nice work.. love it~!
I have a few questions. Is it actually possible to make a cast of plasticine sculpture? And, this so called plasticine is the one that kids play with, right?
π: 0 β©: 1
scargeear In reply to GuRairv [2013-05-14 16:40:48 +0000 UTC]
Thank you very much!
Yes, it's possible to make a silicone cast directly from plasticine model. Though the plasticine should be sulfur-free or the silicone should be sulfur-friendly. If you could obtain the video tutorials by John Brown from Gnomon Workshop you could see the process itself.
No, I use a plasticine for sculptors. Kid's one is too soft.

Concept of what? Can you please explain what exactly was stolen.
Concept of Tom? It's the question of his parents and belongs to them.
Concept of Loki? It's Scandinavian God and belongs to Swedes, Norwegians, who else.
Of sculpted head? Heads for BJDolls sculpted from real people or characters already exist as far as I remember at least 3 or 4 years. Even through you were the first who decided to sculpt Loki\Tom's head is anybody else prohibited to do the same too?

I think we were speaking to the queen here, not the 'flying monkeys'. Thus, and therefore, we shall not answer any other reply about this that doesn't comes from the real person I was taking about. Thank you for understanding.
Now about owning something?, my planning it's simple, WE, both of us (that includes "scargeear" by the way, if you haven't notice), do not have the 'legal rights of anything', but HOW COMES since our group decided to start the project and publicizing it on DA on the same groups she attends and on the same places she looks, she came up with the wonderful idea of a BJD head of the character... no one here on DeviantArt had the idea of making a BJD head of Loki before, not even after the THOR movie, -we did-, but now "Avengers it's selling!- so a lot of people, that yes, they might be better or not, "jump to the train" when a month ago they don't even knew the character or cared about the actor, and then you expose what you think to them, and as usual, they sent their minions to attack you supposedly not in their names because their are for the popular eyes, "saints", and can not be stained with the sweet of the hard labor made by original artist ho came up with the concept of doing this particular kind of doll with this particular kind of head based on this particular person before... like if never had even tried that before.
And please remember I will not continue this argument with people ho isn't even involve in the case itself. Your opinion might be very much appreciated somewhere else. Thank it there. Thank you once again.

I just love when someone takes others people's ideas and turn them into their own... :/ ....no, honest, I love it.
So coincidentally I was the first one into actually making a Tom's head resembling Loki, and coincidentally I'm also working on my 3rd Ver. of him, ho, by the way and unrelated to the lack of own ideas, there is a new Hot-Toys coming out based on Loki [link] (as you all might know "Hot-Toys" it's a factory ho specialization it's to make very realistic life-like completely articulated 1/6 scale action figures)

I'm sorry, but just because two people have the same idea for a piece it does not mean that one of them is a thief. Maybe someone wanted to make a sculpture of their own, and if they have the talent then by all means they should have the right to do so. By accusing an artist of stealing your idea you are simply putting yourself on a pedestal and assuming that everyone wants to mimic your great and almighty creation. You are also assuming that everyone has seen your work, and it does not appear that this lady has. Plenty of people have done portraits of Tom as Loki, and that does not at all mean they were copying the first person to do so. I don't see why a sculpture should be any different. You do not have copyrighted ownership of Loki's head, so stop flattering yourself and quit the passive-aggressive act.

I'm deeply sorry but I don't understand exactly what do you mean? Yes, I know about Hot Toys action figures, they are quite popular. I also know about Minimee and Nobility service, I even can provide you a link to the Russian-speaking forum where a group order for Tom Hiddleston is held: [link] (registration is needed). They started a topic on December 21th 2011.
Could you please explain this part more?
I just love when someone takes others people's ideas and turn them into their own
Do you also know that there was 5 different batches of Sephiroth through Minimee services? Do you know that Minimee and Nobility are working on Benedict Cumberbatch BJD heads at the same moment? That is normal))))
π: 0 β©: 1
Mechanic-Star In reply to scargeear [2012-05-12 08:13:16 +0000 UTC]
Minimee services are ""Minimee services"", not random "DA related artist" doing their own version. Truth is this topic was planned on 'September 2011' and carried out "late November - early December" to be delivered on first lights of this year, just as you, my team doesn't own any MARVEL or Tom's right to reproduce it, and we do it just as fan art, but it's also truth than we had the idea first, so now, we find over 4 'artisans' that doesn't even like the character, duplicating this idea and making they 'own versions' just for sale...
(regardless of the Minimee services, since DIM it's actually a factory and they have all the right in the world to deal with their versions as they please and/or treat legal issues as they also see it fit...and we are mentioning this factory as we might as well do mention any other).
So yeah....it kinda' sucks to see people mimicking our long months of work...
At very least we wold have being open to trade 'one head for another', so we always have other artist points of view (thing that help us grown as artist in both sides), and we are glad because to offer this because we are fans of the character itself, but to you this proposition it's meaningless since it's obvious you don't even like Loki...
So yes, maybe for you 'replicating an idea out of some other person ho had it first' it's *normal* or just fine, but we gently have to differ.
In any case it's not how our team feels about it and we are truly deeply sorry to see this things, even if they come as "normal" to you, we must insist...they are not.

Dear Niever,
You say: since it's obvious you don't even like Loki...
So, you know nothing of me and you make this assumption. How generous of you.
If I don't participate in Loki fangroups here on DA it doesn't mean I stay out of the other parts of fandom like Tumblr and local groups. I always liked Loki from the Scandinavian myths. But I personally think this means absolutely nothing when talking about sculpting.
I knew nothing about your plans, and I knew a little about you just because you had an Iplehouse Akando customized Sephiroth doll, and now you say somebody mimicks your work? Did you show any progress photos of your work on DA earlier than April 5th while my 1st draft in my diary is dated by March 14th?
Look, I used a lots of Tom's photos during my work, and any character can be pulled out of this head: captain Nicholls, Henry V etc. etc. including Tom himself. I wouldn't say I'm making Loki and only Loki.

Mechanic-Star In reply to scargeear [2012-05-12 19:49:34 +0000 UTC]
Dear scargeear, I don't stalk people on daily basis, neither does my team, and from what we can see here, you don't have fan art of the character and don't even mention him. We are deviants, not "trolls", and obviously you can always appeal to the concept that no one can be on no ones head, specially if you ask us to visit a Russian or Ukrainian forum where we can't not even read the language... I personally wouldn't sent you to a Spanish forum, or blog for that mater, and hope you used a translator to hardly figure out what it's writing there. This concept it's unfair and unrealistic, so no!, we didn't follow you everywhere, just here, n Deviant, where our work was posted in the same places we both visit and coincidentally long before yours.
The whole idea of doing a BJD head of this particular character/actor was first planted in our group princely because -no one else have done it until we decided to start with the project-, we already knew factories like DIM and some other artist wold copy the idea, we just didn't though it wold be so ...so......'out of the closet'. So here you come along presenting yourself as a 'queen of the masterpiece' that was originally constructed in concept (and I will risk to say in actual materials too), by other team months ago... you should have though at some point this could make sad the original team ho was working on the project for starters...
And for the record is not an Akando, it's a Chase and I buoyed from a factory ho didn't wanted to reproduce a Sphiroth sculpture, just a generic one I decided to paint that way, like everyone knows this is a custom hobby, but I highly doubt I ruined anyone's plans from a character ho saw the day light back on 1997 (and I custom my doll on 2009 I think, so I honestly don't see why are you bringing my dolls to an argument from sculpting something completely personalized...)
You well know I'm not talking about myself, but on behalf of the entire group involved on the development of the project, you can say you are innocent all the time you want but you keep on pushing dates further and further "just to see if you can show you didn't see at all our work", I've already gave you the dates and the WOP are continuously deletes when there is a newer version of the heads or whatever it is we are working on...
So go on 'sniffing for the bucks out there' based on our idea, then again, ho cares?, this is the internet, it's not like some of us here had any moral values or something to really comprehend why others are upset about watching the mimic of their work out there, right?
{-and yes, that was a rhetorical question-}
