Description

The snow and icy tundra stretching on for eternity in all directions suddenly shifted, and Harou wasn't sure when exactly it had changed.... just that suddenly there was a wall of green rising ahead of them.

Green

There was seldom ever any green in the tundra outside of scraggly trees and grass too short to even tickle Harou's toes. And when there was green, it was never in such abundance. Not like this.

There was a sea of ahead, cut into intricate and carefully groomed pathways and structures. These were not wild things that had been left to grow, bend, and shape as they will- these had been deliberately cut, the maze-like structure in it deliberately sculpted.... and the line of evergreens skirting the outside of the structure were too straight too.

Everything is too.... clean.

Harou paused at the edge, easily towering over the hedge barely high enough to reach their belly. There were other things too, man-made iron stalks growing between the trees and giving off an ethereal glow from some lightsource inside that couldn't quite be made out. Harou bent their head to give the glowing iron rods a glance, the wispy yellow light reflected in their dark eyes hidden beneath the scruff covering their form.

... Lamps.

That was what they were, a human thing. There was some recollection of seeing similar things in Harou's mind.... or maybe it was something Paulunn had mentioned. Harou wasn't quite sure.

Harou lift their head again, glancing back the way they had come. They were standing now on the edge of icy nothingness behind them and this new, terribly vibrant green and definitely human thing before them- snowflakes still spilling cross a thin boundary between them and dusting the edges of the hedge-construct. It was almost as if Harou had wandered into a separate plane of reality without realizing it, plucked away from their home they knew so well and dropped here. In some place that really did seem to go on for infinity.

Overhead and hidden behind hazy fog and cloud-cover poked a tiled glass ceiling that seemed to stretch on for even an even further infinity than the two utterly distinct landscapes stretching on either side. One icy white and dismal, and another vibrant green and so full of plant and life and... and sound.

Harou perked, their head turning back toward the maze of green pathways and stiffening faintly to finally realize that there was this strange sort of melodic sound coming from deep within that maze of hedges. It wasn't like bird-song, or wind... it sounded synthetic and not so at the same time, with hints of trickling water mixed in from spaces unseen in it's depths.

Harou heard it for the first time in that instant, and upon hearing they felt a strange tug somewhere in their core... almost like something soothing, and trying to tug them forward.

And no sooner did that sensation arise did the hedge itself move.

The green walls suddenly shifted, stretching upward toward the sky and growing taller than even Harou in seconds. The trees and lamps suddenly shifted backward, sliding along the ground and moving in tandem with the entrance that widened before Harou, the whole maze shifting and adjusting itself as it scaled up, scattering bits of green in the wind.

Harou backed up a pace instinctively, lowering their head and suddenly on edge even as it all to a standstill not a few seconds later- the walls now above Harou's own head, and it was quite an unsettling feeling. Little was ever taller than them, least of all something like this- something polished, and strange, and seemingly capable of movement. It was like they were suddenly dwarfed, and they recoiled at the feeling, backing up another few steps from the entrance now looming before them.

The sound of the hedges moving faded to none, the rustle of leaves and snapping of twigs in the depths being quickly replaced with that same strange melody from before. But it was louder now, clearer on their senses and not at all muffled by the and more inviting.

Harou didn't move for a moment, wary even as the melody continued to drift out from the inside. A blip of blue light caught Harou's eye, small magic-like orbs of light suddenly popping into existence before them. The blips stretched out in a line, heading straight into the maze almost like... a guide, or a trail to follow through the winding maze.

Harou's head lift slowly, leaning in toward the tune and the soft blue glow of the lights without realizing it.... and about to take a step forward too.

All strange, and all unfamiliar- but still. Somehow it was drawing them in. It was inviting, even though that sensation didn't seem like it should make any sense.

Harou stepped in
