Description
Seven of Nine or Annika Hansen Star Trek Voyager. Finally it's finished! I once said that I'll paint something or someone from Star Trek so here it is.
It took about 11 hours. Too long in my opinion and it's not that detailed, but that's what usually happen when I try to record painting process.
Here's the video: [link]
Done almost completely in MyPaint, only background is done in Gimp.
I was using grid for the first time and it felt a bit like cheating. I couldn't get her face right and this one was third try.

Fantastic. Great what you can do with Gimp and MyPaint. I love your painting!

Yeah, that usually happens to me with MyPaint not sure why. I will correct that and some other things, add some textures on her face and make better background soon.

It's much better than my portrait attempts in MyPaint, by far!! Then again, you're obviously more skilled and more patient than me.
very very nice, despite the problems you had with it. The hair and skin is very nice.
It was a goodly while since I saw Voyager, but this really does bring me back.

Thanks, but those eyes gave me a headache. Glad you find them nice 'cause that means my headache wasn't in vain.

You've just said you were back... And in the nick of time this work pops up .
I like your portrait very much. You've rendered the expression quite well — the questioning glance that only non-humans (or once-humans ) can have. It is visible that you've invested quite a bit of your time given the details, smoothing...
My main concern is about the implant. It contrasts very much with the skin and looks as if not blended enough into her blesh. You might try to add some shadowing and reflections on both her skin and implant. Also, the dark area on her left eyelid ends sharply making it and the make-up not quite natural.
But all in all, the face is perfect. Just a one or two details here and there that need to be enhanced. You've signed up your return, a warm welcome back to you and your drawings .

Thanks.
I guess you are right about implant. I was staring at this portrait for too long. Everything is the same to me. I'll put it away for some time so that it can be blurred in my memory and then I'll probably be able to see all the mistakes I've made. I was flipping it (horizontally) many times, but it doesn't help anymore, I think I got use to that view also.
You can't have it all, before I was only trying to practice painting and haven't worry too much about likeness but this time I really wanted it to look alike so I guess I was afraid to paint freely in fear of ruining the likeness.

I'd say don't fear anything. Draw and paint with your heart. You don't necessarily have to paint things as they look to others but how they look to you. Or even how you want them to look for you .

I know, but I also believe that can be accomplished only after person master basics. And that's what I'm going to do. First drawing, then color and composition and finally painting.
But that doesn't mean I won't paint.
I'm a bit perfectionist and I have a problem with it when painting. That's probably the cause of my fears, but it's also a driving force to get better.

When two perfectionists meet, what do they talk about?

They just don't talk as they're too busy finding the perfect sentence .

There's a moral to the story: don't be too demanding upon yourself . And I'm a perfectionist, too. Spend time improving but not too much on details that can't be noticed, I'd say.
