Both are nerdy protagonists who unknowingly wander into a situation (Travis Touchdown gets wrangled into the UAA's assassination rankings and Viewtiful Joe gets sucked into Movieland with his girlfriend) who start off as dumb geeks that get treated like a bunch of jokes, but later on grow into a genuinely badass protagonist that earns respect from the area (Travis is renowned for his success as the top-ranked assassin and Joe becomes the savior of Movieland); earning titles that reference their game (Travis gets dubbed as the "no more hero" and Joe receives the title of "viewtiful" after beating his rival, Stylish Alastor). The games in question have a bombastically silly tone where they'll often poke fun at pop culture, usually video games and movies, with some level of 4th wall awareness. These games have also played around with the "family member is the main villain" trope (No More Heroes had Jeane reveal that she is Travis Touchdown's half-sister along with Henry Cooldown revealing that he is Travi's twin brother and Viewtiful Joe having Captain Blue revealed as the villain and Sylvia's father as well as Viewtiful Joe 2 revealing that the main antagonist, Jet Black, is Joe's father) and the "mastermind behind everything" trope (No More Heroes 2 revealing Jasper Batt Jr. claiming that the rankings in that game were constructed in a way where Jasper would have his revenge on Travis and Viewtiful Joe revealing Captain Blue to be the creator of Movieland).
