Description Name: Juniper
Species: Earth Pony
Pronouns: She/her

Gender: Female

Notes:

As her great aunt never had children and married a well off man she shares what she has with Juniper
Has a crush on a pale white stallion who may or may not be death
Is dead set on meeting him again

In her youth, would wander the moors near her village.  As she grew she would drift further and further away as she stayed out later and later.  Finally one night she stayed out so late the sun set and the moon rose.

She couldn't say why she wasn't afraid.  She had heard the same cautionary tales of the faeries and spirits that wandered so far from anything civilized.  Tales of children carried off, never to be seen again.  Stories of terrible deaths and even darker half-lives in the darkness.

The night grew darker and the wind grew colder.  As Juniper shivered, she found that the last of her strength had left her and she lay down to sleep under the stars as there was no shelter she could make out anywhere near her.

For the first time she felt a stab of fear.  What if it was the cold of the wind that would carry her away and not the faeries?

She did all she could, curling into herself and closing her eyes.  She would sleep and hope that she would be found in the morning.

When she woke it was still dark and she was confused how she had been woken.  It took her several seconds but she made out the sound of hoof-fall, barely audible, and realized that the wind had died.

The prickling of something fearful forced her sluggish eyes open and she raised her head and what she saw made her quail.

A white horse, pale as bone and moonlight, skin translucent and, somehow she knew, as cold as death.

Terror gripped her more forcefully but she was unable to move.

In her very soul she knew that this was Death.

She feared he had come for her.

He stood and he watched her and she watched him back, unable to look away from him.

As their eyes stayed locked, she saw in the depths a light and the light called to her, but she found she found she wasn't afraid anymore.

Just as she wanted to say something, the stallion bowed their head and smiled.  Finally, she found she could finally look away.

Juniper turned as she heard shouting behind her.  Her parents and aunts and uncles had come looking and finally found her.

When she looked back the specter of Death had disappeared, if he'd ever been there at all.

After they had bundled her and gotten her safely back to the village, Juniper told the story of the strange white stallion she saw.  Anyone who had been close enough to see her first insisted they hadn't seen anyone there with her.  As her insistence upset her mother Juniper finally fell silent and her night on the moors became a memory.

She was no longer allowed alone on the moors at night and was instead sent away to live in a town by the sea with a great aunt.

While Juniper grew to love her great aunt in spite of her strangeness, she never forgot the eyes of that Stallion.

As she grew, she dreamed of him and, when she came of an age to start liking boys, found she compared their eyes to her memories and always found them wanting.

It was a long time before she realized that she had become infatuated with him.

Finding no one she could tell, Juniper held onto this secret and began to concoct a plan.

She wanted to meet her love again, but the question was: How?
