The Hurricane was the first eight-gun monoplane and entered service with 111 Squadron in 1937. It bore the brunt of the fighting during the Battle of Britain as RAF Fighter Command fielded almost twice as many Hurricanes than Spitfires. The Hurricane shot down the 80% of all enemy aircraft claimed by the RAF during the Battle of Britain.
