Description
Londthyrian Confederacy Air Service Concorde VC.1, ATC callsign Stag One; 79-00301 shownCustom order for four Concorde aircraft, two each from BAC and Aerospatiale, authorized in the FY79 and FY80 budgets for executive transport, and were the only Concordes with inflight refueling receptacles. Entered service in CY1980 and remain the only flying Concordes in the world, after AF/BA retired their aircraft in 2003. LCAS purchased all remaining spare Concorde stock from Air France, British Airways, BAE, and Airbus, as well as all plans, jigs, and manufacturing equipment in 2003.
The aircraft were taken out of service and extensively upgraded in the early 2000s, including safety improvements made in the wake of the Air France 4590 crash. Other upgrades included all digital fly by wire flight controls and fully digital instrumentation; all in service and spare Olympus 593s were stripped down and rebuilt during this time. Future upgrades include fly by optic flight controls, biofuel compatibility, and intelligent flight control system.
The four Concordes, 79-00301, 79-00302, 80-00401, and 80-00402, remain in LCAS service today.
A typical diplomatic flight, for example the UN General Assembly, involves two inflight refueling tankers with the first refueling off the coast of Chile with a second off the coast of Panama before the final sprint around Florida to NYC Metro area.
