Description
Simone cleared her throat, after getting the four survivors settled in the forward wardroom. "Welcome aboard Thunderpig Airlines flight Nine Nine Nine*, with potential nonstop service to Western Australia. We don't have seatbelts on the bunks, so there's no need to observe the nonexistent fasten seatbelt sign; please refrain from lighting up until we're stabilized at our cruising altitude of 5000 feet. There is one lavatory forward, opposite the forward boarding door; emergency exits include the aft door and bomb windows.

"Please remain on this deck, as there are no passenger services on the upper deck. In the event of interception by Japanese aircraft, this bomb bay is currently the safest area. Take refuge in that area.

"Once we're on our way, hot beverage service and and ration packs will be provided. We will also begin debriefing at that time. If you have questions, please bring them up at that time.

"On behalf of Flight Officer Clancy, Flight Sergeant Jia, and the rest of the crew, we hope you enjoy your flight, and return to civilization."

If you have the opportunity to visit the RAF Museum at Hendon and crawl through ML824 (a Short Sunderland MkV on display), you'll realize just how dark the interior is (or at least it was when I was there in '05). And I tried to replicate that as best as I could, with small spot lighting throughout the various compartments.
