THIS. TOOK. WAY. TOO. LONG.

I’m so relieved that this is done. It took too much brain power and too much free time to make redesigns of the gang. I was constantly changing little details and altering poses pretty much on the fly. I’m just happy I got this done. I do have some little notes I wrote prematurely on each character. So enjoy these

SONIC- I wanted to keep Sonic as simple and as faithful to the original Uekawa design as possible. The only things about him that change is that he has Soap shoes and different gloves (This was written before I decided to make his gloves fingerless and black. His cuffs were different, his actual hands weren’t). I was whacked out on skate punk, which is kinda the vibe I was getting when I did this.

TAILS- Tails is the one who changed the least. It’s only his shoes that changed, which are designed to look like Jordans but “cartoony” I guess. Just don’t crease ‘em, those took really long to draw.

KNUCKLES- Reverse Kratos! I had an uncomfortably long time making the little stripe, because I had a black outline on it, and midway through coloring, I had to get rid of it. So that was fun
I also wanted to take in mind his “heritage” and how the echidnas looked from the flashbacks in Adventure looked, so I made him a little more rugged and rougher (than the rest of em, the best of ‘em, tougher than leather).

AMY- Amy Rose, a character designed to be “Female Sonic” has looked more like Female Knuckles for 25 YEARS. However, to strike a balance between the classic look (which was cute but had a god-awful color scheme) and the modern look (which just generally looks…meh) I turned to Isabella from Phineas and Ferb. I added the little shoulder poofs from the classic design and kicked out the spines, but shortened them enough to look similar to modern Ames. And last but not least I made the skirt and the shirt two separate parts rather than just one dress.
