Tai Yang is a second generation chinese immagrant. She loves the American dream and all it stands for. By the age of 15 she learned the hard way that she was meant for greater things when a friend of her's was being robbed, she stepped in and tried to shove the attacker away. The mugger yelled in pain, his shirt burning away from his body and a burned handprint across his chest. He fled and left Tai bewildered. When she got home she told her parents what happened and they didn't seem suprised.

Her mother went to the basement and came back up with a garment bag. Inside it was an orange and yellow costume. They explained that her mother was the superheroine Solara and tried to fight corruption and evil in China before being forced into exile and moving to America. They gave her the costume and let her decide if she wanted to follow in her mother's footsteps, after school and with proper training of course.

Tai accepted and now uses her fire to fight for the freedom of all peoples.
