Quick questions concerning this:
You say it's for all audiences... does this mean we might be able to find it in a Barnes & Noble somewhere nearby, or only through SofaWolf?
Also, I'm sure you wouldn't, but you don't mind that I'm pointing people towards the site at all, right?
Just thought I'd throw that out there.

We'll see about having it in major bookstores when we get there. ;]
And please, point people to the site! That's what it's for! :]

heh, glad I can do whatever I can to help.
I must admit I didn't get DDoS due to the content of it, but hearing it will be all-audiences I'm definitely gunna get it.
I'll see if I can pull some strings at the Barnes & Noble I work at. Who knows, so long as it's successful, it might make it c:

I read the background behind the story, saw everything on the site, and must say that I am thuroughly impressed thus far. It seems as if, as summer comes, everyone is gearing up for their next big projects.
I wish you all the luck in the world on this, screwbald, though I doubt you'll need too much luck for a person of your training and ability.
Anywho, the book that was listed on your site concerning wrinkles and drapery, is that one that you bought off of Amazon, or do you think I'd be able to find it at Waldenbooks or Barnes and Nobles or another nearby dealer? I've been dying to practice a few things, and seeing how much it did for you, I'd love to just give it a shot and see what will come of it.
Thanks in advance, and may the stars lead you safely to your destination c:

Thank you! :]
That wrinkles book I think I ordered it off of Amazon, though I suspect you can find it at any major bookstore, or worse case, have 'em order it. :]
It's helpful for understanding the dynamics and physics behind wrinkles, but the best practice is still studies and lifedrawing, in my opinion. :]

Yeah, I've been able to draw a little bit more frequently, but I still find my characters to be surprisingly stiff. Apart from continuing my gesture drawings, which I thank you for advising me to do, any ideas on how to remedy this problem?
Perhaps I should find another book or two on anatomy...

screwbald In reply to StarYoshi [2009-06-07 15:14:50 +0000 UTC]
Anatomy books are helpful to learn anatomy and proportions, but I'm not sure it can help with fluidity/stiffness.
Try gesture drawing/life drawing dancers. Ballet dancers make for good studies as they do a lot of lithe, graceful movements and wear clothing that displays their form. Also, try switching your drawing tool--charcoal tends to make people loosen up, as does a sharpie or a roller-ball pen. A bigger piece of paper will also force you to make large grand strokes that can appear less inhibited and stiff. :]
Lastly...If you're old enough, try having a drink and then doing some gesture drawings. It can help to loosen your drawing up a bit!

Hmm, thanks for the advice.
I guess a little investigation into the different proportions of the animals I draw as well would allow me to distinguish them more simpler than just "it's a fox, not a tiger" and stuff like that.
Thanks again man, for dealing with my ceaseless questions c:
