Description The stallion walked forward, the stringed lanterns lighting his way. The mare following behind him was lagging, the extra weight in her belly slowing her down. Her long mane and tail somehow managed to not get tangled on the path’s occasional shrubbery.

“Josiah, how much further?” She questioned, a bit of sweat beading on her forehead. She hauled herself up the climbing stone path after Josiah. Swiveling his large ears backward, the stallion smiled warmly, “You’re doing great, my love, we’re nearly there.” He waited for her to catch up before giving her an encouraging nudge forward.

Not long after their exchange, Josiah took off, surprising Nokomis. She lost sight of him as he disappeared over the ridge of the mountain. The mare paused before hurriedly trying to catch up.

Josiah happily stood on the flat overlook as he awaited Nokomis’ arrival.

Finally joining the were-heart’s side, the mare’s eyes filled with awe.

Before them stretched a flat rocky plateau, the moon illuminating the flat slate of rock. The sky, unaffected by the valentines event lights, shone in brilliant deep blues. Millions of stars peppered the sky. The lanterns initially lighting their path, now outlined their personal lounging area.

“Well, what do you think?” The stallion asked. Nokomis turned to look at him, clearly elated, “It’s beautiful...” She turned her gaze back to the stars, finding constellations that matched her own. “Is this why you said we had to come out here tonight?” She smiled, recalling how excitedly he had ushered her out. “Well... partially... I had intended to bring us out here before...” he quickly glanced at the roundness of her belly before looking to her bright blue eyes once again.

“Nokomis,” the stallion walked forward, nuzzling the side of her cheek, making his way down to her shoulder before pulling her closer to himself. “I wanted to bring you here to make my vows to you under these stars you so adore.” He paused

“I promise to protect you, love you, and provide for you. I will never let any harm befall you, loneliness overcome you, or worries go unheard.” Josiah hesitated before continuing. “I am always going to listen to you, care for you, and support you.” Looking down at his mate’s bell-shaped belly, he smiled. “I promise these things to you and our child. They will never go a day without them knowing how much I care for you and for them.”

Nokomis, knew each of these promises were never going to be broken. Pressing herself closer to him, she closed her eyes, trying to prevent tears from falling. “Josiah... you’re the stars to my night sky, without you, my life is not complete. I know that I won’t have to remind you of these promises you’ve made. You’ve kept every vow you’ve made and given me so much more than I could have ever asked for...” She let out a soft sigh, her happiness seemed to be overflowing. “I have no words that could ever describe just how much you mean to me. I love you.” She murmured.

Josiah gently drew back and pressed his forehead to hers, “And I love you.”

Although the night’s air was chilly, the two remained on their star-gazing platform, reminiscing and cuddling until it was time to return home.
