"When was the last time you cared about anything other than yourself? Runner! Tell me once and I'll take back what I said." - Doc Hudson
Ever since I saw the movie Cars (2006), I became a fan of motorsport, just as others who saw the movie became fans of Motorsport. In fact, I had to watch the movie through the DVD, because I couldn't go to the theater to see it and my parents, including my grandmother, had to put up with every time I played the whole movie over and over again. It was something that I always did, because well, at that time, despite the fact that YouTube and other platforms already existed, I dedicated myself to watching it through a DVD player that my grandmother had and that is no longer there today.
But not only did I like the movie for its animation and motor sport, but also for the great lessons that the movie taught us when we were little, such as not being so arrogant with others, being a humble person with respect, among others. important values of life that prepared us for the future. My favorites are Cars 1 and 3, Cars 2 may not be one of my favorites because it focuses on something other than racing, but at least it has good songs.
For this post I decided to make a reference to the final run of the film, but this The King is replaced by none other than The Intimidator, Dale Earnhardt. And yes, I know that 22 years have passed since he left this world, but he refused to use the HANS, a device that is placed in the area of the pilot's head to prevent him from going forward, and because of that fatal mistake , The damage was already done. Had he heeded the HANS or otherwise crashed on the last lap of the 2001 Daytona 500, everything would have changed but for that human error. In short, what I would have liked the most was to see that he had survived the accident. If it had happened, but not in such a serious way, his withdrawal would be definitive and he would undergo a series of operations to return to normality.
Anyway, I decided to recreate the final scene of the movie, but this time, the King's clash would be replaced by Earnhardt himself. Where there, Lightning McQueen decides to help him by pushing him to the finish line in his last race before his retirement. This is one of my favorite scenes, not only because we have to help the drivers in case of a serious accident, but also because they showed us that motorsport is a dangerous sport. An example that I could take from F1 would be Grosjean's accident in Bahrain 2020 or the most recent, Guan Yu Zhou's in Great Britain 2022. I saw the latter on television, and I swear I was completely shocked when I saw the replays of the shocks.
Also, the ending of the 2006 movie was never inspired until years later at Watkings Glen on August 5, 2018. There, Chase Elliot won his first race but just as he was about to return to pitlane to celebrate, he was caught. I run out of fuel. Jimmie Johnson, the 7-time NASCAR champion, backed up his car and pushed Elliot into pitlane as he waved to the crowd, who cheered and yelled at him. Being an incredible moment that many who saw the movie will remember. Here is a post that was posted by a user on the same day as this moment: From CGI to the real world .
