I have no special secret, I just draw strand after strand; although that needs a lot of time, I think it's worth it.
I just went through your gallery; looking at your Roger Waters drawinng I'd say all you need is more practice, you're already on the right way

I'm getting better at light hair but darker hair still kills me, what kind of pencil do you use for that?

Normally I use 0.7 and 0.5 mechanical pencils with Faber Castell HB leads. For the pencil itself, there's no special brand I prefer, I think it's just important that you feel comfortable with it and that's different for everybody.
