This is what I ended up doing with it, not the best, but in the end it wasn't used anyway so I didn't really care if it sucked huge hairy lemons.
I had fun recreating the crest, lol...

hmm your problem is the blending i think, and u didnt had any pre made "view" or vision^^""
but anyway it is still good by the sides of the effects, and the cross looks fine...^-^
