Description This is a full sized crop of a 24 x 30 inch render. That's 7200 x 9000 pixels.

I couldn't help but get excited about the perfect resolution that fractals have. We could go 1000 times bigger and it would still have the same resolution. Isn't that cool? I sure think it is.

The 24 x 30 took about 18 hours on my AMD 3500+ machine. I think it's time to upgrade to a dual core CPU. The prices of the AMD CPUs have become affordable now with the introduction of the Intel core duo. UF does use both processors.

I'm now rendering a 30 x 40 inch version, but I might stop it. I think that I need a little texture on the point traps. The image is a tweaked version of this image. [link]

30 x 40 is as big as ezprints gets. Maybe someday I'll go larger but for now this will have to do.

Thanks for looking. FRACTALS ARE SO COOL!

Great colors! Heck, this crop doesn't look so bad as a stand-alone. Yeah, like the others said - maybe a little more crispness to the balls to go with the sharpness of the rest of the stuff. Or pull the mask edge way out so that they are "areas" of color rather than "blobs".

Beautiful work. Yeah I know what you mean about upgrading to a dual processor I had one about a month ago that took 106 hours to render. Always a pleasure to see your work. Keep it up.

I also agree with Michael about the point orbit traps, something seems to be missing there. I love that UF can render such a large image so quickly, most of my print renders are done at something like 10800 x 7200 px. The longest a render has ever taken for me was around 72 hours with about 90 or so layers though...

I envy you, I would love a new dual core cpu.

Thanks. I have added a little texture to the traps

Unfortunately I think that everyone missed the point of this image. It's just a small section of a large render. It isn't meant to be a standalone image. The actual image is in the link. I should post it here

I did miss the point, sorry... You might have had a better response if you posted the full piece, maybe with a link to a portion at 100% zoom in scraps or just separate from this one. The composition of the final piece is more appealing and the point traps fit with it. They probably do look better with some texture though.

A lovely tweak of one of my favorite "flowers". I looked at the comments about the "blob" spirals, and I think they have an ethereal feel. They jump out at the small size, but the 'big click" shows them in a better perspective. You're right about the details - fractals are fun as all get out!

Nice Keith - but I agree with the comment about the blob spirals and I have to admit for me I'd like a little more contrast here and there.

Well, YOUR fractals are certainly very cool I sympathise with the desire for the faster, dual core.....I have an old PIII 933, which is fine for ordinary work, but *rather* slow (zzzzzzzz) for fractals.....

Something tells me my machine would choke somewhere between a sofa print and billboard size...(Let's see...24 ft x12 ft = 86,400 x 43,200...yikes! )

Love the little background doodles showing in the upper rights.

Core 2 Duo is definetly the way to go. i did a little test with apophysis with a core 2 E6400 duo @ 2.13GHz from work against my Pentium D 930 @ 3.0GHz, and i was beat by about 13%.

As for your image, i must say i don't think it is your best. The blob spirals seem a little plain, and more like a filler.

Well after reading your blog at orbit trap, i figured you could take some honesty. I laughed the whole way through it.
