Oh, Discord. I like how he regretted being a dick AFTER he was betrayed.

The 'friendship' Discord wanted came from one individual specifically; Fluttershy was the only character he bothered to make an effort to maintain a freindship with, and in return, every other character than Fluttershy continued to treat him with as much distrust and dislike as they did prior to him being reformed. They did nothing but accuse him and act on-guard around him in the premiere, and continued to do so in Three's a Crowd. All in all, friendship wasn't yet a concept that he up-took and cherished from others, in general. It was a nice thing that he had found in Fluttershy, alone. A fault of both parties to be sure.
Truly, outside Fluttershy, he had no real concept of being trusted or having friends to treat him as real friends should, likewise not knowing the feeling of truly losing those things, either.
Now, having betrayed the friend(s?) he had and then being betrayed himself, Discord's gotten an enlightening 360° view, and has a far more concrete understanding of what friendship is, what it means, and how it feels to lose it all. Far more of an understanding than the brief, twenty-minute friendship seminar he was forced to attend in Keep Calm and Flutter On, anyway 
And now, it *appears* that the other Mane Six and even other characters will start to treat him with more respect as actual friends. Hopefully S5 and beyond goes on to show that, by having Discord interact positively with some of the other Mane Six besides Fluttershy, and hell, some Discord & Celestia/Luna interaction would be sweet.

But the long and short of it is that he's only sorry because backstabbing didn't work out for him. I'd be a lot more endeared to him if it was seeing Fluttershy caged that made him realize he had been scum, and then he was betrayed for objecting.
