Compared to the original CG, this is pretty good. It'll improve with some color shading and some highlights though. Right now, you're just using the original pencil shading to provide toning. It's still a viable technique though, but since you just did the coloring and not the pencils, it would be better if some more effort was put into it. Nice job.
I always thought Fred was really protective of his stuff though, especially for drawings that are being sold on posters. Are you sure he gave open permission for this particular drawing?

Cool piece! The pose is great, and the colouring is nice and effective- fitting in really well with the sketchy style.
I think this would look much better if you erased the unneccesary shading lines on the character, though, just leaving the main lines for outline and detail.
