Description
The lifecycle of the spinners of Tungsten Heart is one of death and rebirth. When two spinners mate, they exchange male seeds and fertilize each other. With no way to lay the seeds in the ground, the pair of spinners opts instead to find a high branch to perch on, often together. Here their metabolisms will slowly shut down and the parents will perish where they stand. Inside them, the now fertile seeds will rapidly develop into pupae; nearly microscopic spinners with tufts of fluff instead of wings. Once these pupae develop, their parents' bodies will begin to shrink around their filamentous skeletons and break open, and their young will fly into the breeze like dandelion seeds. Thousands of spinner pupae will be released into the wind, and a small handful of them will drift long enough to reach maturity, sprout their own wings, and restart the cycle.Be it knowingly or not, it is in a spinner's nature to die for their children.
