Hermione touched his lips lightly with trembling fingertips … stopping the last of his words from passing beyond his teeth … Severus turned away, a low whisper issued from him, anguished –dark, it was almost a moan … a plea which he knew would fall unheeded, dashed upon the cold indifferent tiles …

“No …” he said it once more … it cracked in his throat, his head sank slowly into his chest …

Hermione hated herself just then, overwhelmed by what she asked of him, the urgency of the moment tore at her, she felt cruel – something akin to betrayal, she had to convince him somehow … a way had to be found … she became desperate, time was running through her delicate fingers like quicksilver …

Severus pulled himself to his feet, he strode off unsteady … it was painful to watch, even more so to follow after him …

‘then you leave me no choice …’

She composed the thought … realizing at that very instant that he reacted to it with lightning speed, he wheeled, pouncing on her, wand out, he struck the time turner from her hand … it skidded across the floor out of reach … Severus grasped her by the wrist, his grip was fierce, painful – his face like carved stone, he drew himself over her, the darkness in his eyes fixed upon her …

"you leave me no choice …"

He repeated her thoughts, vocalizing them in a low menacing growl … his wand traced her cheek.

Hermione began to slip into the void … she saw his features shift from the raging turbulence to a soft tragic remorse, he faded from her vision … colors bled together … definition receded, she felt herself being lifted into his arms … the world closed in upon her … then nothing …

Nothing like a good solid tug of SSHG to dispel all of this Lily business on the air …
