I figured out I will now call the hoku species Avipoda sapiens (wise bird-feet), and for a good while I pictured them as shaven or hairless creatures, but then a few days ago imagined them as having feathers or floof, finally decided to try that today and I think it opens space for character customisation and more space for culture around how you trim that floof or hair.
