Description
The story of Omar is a tragic one, but one that he brought upon himself. As a child, Omar lived a poor, but good life in his home country of Jamaica. He went to school, played with his friends, and helped his mother with daily chores and work, a simple life. That all changed when he and his mother received a call from Omar's uncle, offering them a chance to come live with him in the US and have a better life. Omar was excited, but his mother not so much, for her brother was none other than King Zidane, and she had her suspicions about his criminal activities. However, wanting to give her son a chance at a better life, she reluctantly agrees and the two of them move into Zidane's luxurious penthouse suite in uptown Sapphire City. While his mother continues to be cautious, Omar is instantly hooked on his new lifestyle. Better food, better clothes, better entertainment, Omar soaks it all in and enjoys the high life. It doesn't take long for him to look up to his uncle and see him as a real father figure, despite his mother's warnings. Once he was old enough, Omar was no longer the sweet little boy from Jamaica, but was now cocky, smooth-talkin' playboy living the good life alongside his uncle. Even, when Omar figured out what kind of shady business Zidane was in, he didn't care, in fact, he wanted in so that he could make money for himself. Zidane was more than happy yo oblige, but Omar's mother was strongly against it. She begged Omar to stop, to come back home with her to Jamaica, but Omar was not about to leave his life of sports cars, parties, and women. Feeling both disappointed and heartbroken, his mother left back to her home country, while Omar became a member of Zidane's crew. He was given the nickname Anansi, since as a boy he was always a bit mischievous, loved to play pranks, and as he got older, he learned a few scamming tricks from Zidane's "associates".
Omar's fate would change forever, when he was tasked with meeting a potential buyer for a shipment of weapons. However, as the meeting went down, they were suddenly ambushed by the members of the Sentinel Corps. As the fighting escalated, a stray blast struck the weapons shipment, triggering an explosion that engulfed Omar. As a result, nearly half his body was severely burnt, his left arm was blown off and his right arm sustained heavy damage, as well as his left leg and his eye. He was quickly rushed to the hospital, where the doctors did everything they could to keep him alive, but his chances of survival were slim. Zidane, not wanting to lose the closest thing he had to a son, abducted the lead scientist of Talon Corp's bioengineering department and forced him to repair Omar at gunpoint. The scientist performed an intense operation where he removed Omar's arms and left leg with cybernetic limbs and replaced his left eye with a cybernetic prototype, though he could do nothing about the burns. Once finished, what stepped off that surgery table was no longer an innocent boy, but damaged man filled with rage. He hated what he had become, blaming the Sentinels for causing the explosion, and even blaming Zidane for putting him on that job, though he kept that last bit to himself. Since then, Anansi has become an ambitious heir to King Zidane's kingdom. While he may play the part of a loyal nephew, much like the folk figure he was named after, Anansi is a trickster, working behind Zidane's back in an effort to both kill the Sentinels that turned him into a monster, and usurp his uncle and take his criminal empire for his own.
A fun little fact about his design, you may notice the tattoo on his chest. That is a verse that I felt was perfect for him:
Corinthians 15:42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it raised imperishable.
Anansi's cybernetic limbs grant him far greater strength than he had before, and with the help of the scientist who gave him those limbs, he upgraded them to include hidden weapons, including blades and tasers. His cybernetic eye was also upgraded to see in multiple spectrums, such as infrared. All this so as preparations for when he begins his own ambitious schemes.
