I think what I love about this piece the most, besides the minimal use of linework and use of simple shapes, is that you portray this scene as over-dramatic and momentous as humanly possible to the point of accompanying the appearance of The Iron Giant with white doves and ominous glowing eyes.
Which only makes what happens next in the film all the more amusing and innocent.
A fantastic piece for a fantastic piece of animation.

The linework makes it look soft, but the block shading makes it look strong; perfect for the character.
