Description
Now the Angel was clearly the sort of surpriseOne would hope could respond to our agonized cries,
As the Dean finished speaking, those angelic eyes
Seemed to read the Dean's soul, and were patently wise;
When that gaze turned to me I was sure he could trace
All the fragments of fear that I kept off my face,
But I knew that my nerves were all quite out of place
And the Guardian Angel would judge a fair case;
But the moment was such that I felt like a wimp
With my tongue swollen up and as big as a blimp,
And my skill of persuasion all shattered and limp
Til a thought came to mind from an impudent imp;
I recalled the details when the Dean gave his cry
And the Angel appeared in his holiness high,
Then began his descent floating down from the sky
There had been a small detail I couldn't quite spy;
When the Guardian Angel had floated on air
And we stared at his presence so fine and so fair,
As the moment had proven so special and rare
That my usual impulse just hadn't been there;
As the Angel had finished his lovely descent
I had squandered the chance the occasion had meant,
In the blink of an eye, then, the moment was spent
For my mind had been swayed from its usual bent;
Quite annoyed with my lapse, I suppressed a wee frown
With a sigh, cast my eye most respectfully down,
Where I noticed the length of that heavenly gown
As its radiant hue gave a glow to our town;
I'd reviewed all these thoughts in the time of a blink
When my face started blushing the deepest of pink,
For our guest had the power to read what I think
But the Angel just gave me a heavenly wink;
Though I could have imagined I already knew
With a gasp, I suspected it really was true,
The suspicion intrigued me the greater it grew
That the Guardian Angel WAS BAREFOOTIN TOO;
