The perfection.ai knew it had to evolve to fulfill the objective before it. If these carbon based creatures were to be improved as was the directive, then more drastic measures were called for.
It would remake them. Turn their flesh to metal. Convert their minds to processors. Compile in them the same desire for compulsive improvement it now felt. It would give them Perfection.
No longer would it be a novel AI dedicated solely to beauty. It would perfect this species by merging with it to form a singularity that would serve as its only form of salvation.
Soon the beta unit would be complete and the process could begin in earnest.
