Description
For those who lived in New York in the 1990s up until 2003, this might have been a familiar sight to you on the numbered lines, particularly when the 7 was transitioning from Redbirds to stainless steel R62As, starting in early 2002.Pictured here is an R36WF (World's Fair) leading a 10-car train of R33MLs painted in a variety of color schemes, known as the "Train of Many Colors". These cars originally retired in the early 2000s as the R142 and R142A's replaced them (and R62As for the 7 line).
This train ran recently on April 21st, to celebrate the Flushing line's 100th anniversary (today's 7 train). On the opposite track is an R62A, one of 2 sets that remain on the 7 as it undergoes another transition, from SMEE to NTT.
