Roleplay Example: From “Warriors, A New Generation” (A Proboards roleplay)

Boulderpelt snorted, picking Stormkit up by the scruff.
"I'wl be wright bach," he meowed to Coldwind, his voice muffled by the kit. He carried Stormkit to a secluded corner of the camp, where a rockfall had collapsed over one of the unused caves. He dropped the kit on the bottom rocks, which were practically cemented together by age and dirt. Lavender grew in some of the dirt-filled crevices, scenting the area with a sweet smell.
"Here, shift the stones," he told the kit, indicating the rockfall. He knew it was impossible, of course, because he'd tried it so many times before. And failed each time. Not one stone would move, they were packed in together so well. He had been able to shift some at the top, but that only made more fall.
"I don't suppose you've heard of Willowleap," he asked Stormkit, looking at the stones but keeping the kit in view, "She was a beautiful cat, with soft, silvery-brown fur that seemed to always change whichever way you looked at it. The purest green eyes you'll ever see. And she had a great heart, too - she was always helping, and whenever something bad happened she was there, ready to comfort with kind words. You'll likely never meet a better cat than she was..." His gaze, previously soft, darkened then as he continued his story.
"She and I were together for a while," he continued, "I loved her more than I've ever loved anyone before, or since. And it seemed Starclan favoured us because after a time we were blessed with a kit. Just a single kit, a little scrap with my spots and her spirit. Aspenkit, we called her. One day, when Aspenkit was three moons old, she was playing in this cave...then the tremor started. Those tremors are rather common further out in our territory, racking the land with crevices and sinkholes, but here they are rare. This one was small, yes, but it was enough. I was dozing when it happened, having just been on patrol... I remember waking, confused and afraid, and I went out to look for Willowleap and Aspenkit. I tried to get here in time... I tripped on the trembling ground and hit my jaw, though, and by the time I got back to my paws..." He took a shuddering breath, remembering that scene as if it had just happened. The cats crying out, trying to run somewhere safe or huddling together in fear. The ground, moving of its own accord. The dust in the air, the cries of animals just outside the camp. The falling rocks, falling so slowly as he locked eyes with the only cat he ever loved....watching, as the stones cut off that gaze, and kept falling. Standing there, as the tremors stopped, unable to move while the dust and the rest of the Clan settled.
"I tried so hard," he meowed finally, "I tried to move the stones, to get to them. We never could hear anything... Whether they were alive, or if the rocks had killed them. In hindsight, I hoped it was a quick death, so they wouldn't have to suffer. But I tried... For days and days, I barely slept, hardly ate at all. I just kept trying to get through, first to try and save them if I could, but then just so I knew. So I could see them one last time, and give them a proper vigil... I never even got that......... After I finally stopped, a quarter moon later, we held the vigil. We spread lavender, rosemary, and mint over the stones, and sat vigil here. I stayed in this exact spot all night, and the night after that." He looked down at Stormkit, wondering if his story had had any effect.
"Now," he told the kit, "Move the stones."
