Figment Fungus (4th edition version)
Figment fungus is a naturally occurring plant often found in the Feywild. The fungi are often cultivated by gnomes and other illusionist fey. Their spores cause the victim to have delusions that they are under attack by shadowy warriors.
Figment Fungus - Level 5 obstacle
Hazard - 200xp
You inhale the toxic spores of the fungus, and for a second everything goes blury. You manage to regain your senses, but when you do, you are surrounded by ghostly figures. As you draw a blade and hack away at them, you become conscious of one of your friends calling to you: "what in the name of Torog are you doing?" she shouts.
Hazard: A patch of fungi taking up 5 contiguous squares.
Perception: No perception check is necessary to perceive the mushrooms.
Additional Skills: A player can identify the fungi as figment fungi with a DC22 arcana or nature check.
Trigger: the hazard attacks when a creature enters or starts its turn in a patch of the fungi or attacks or otherwise disturbs a patch of the mushrooms.
Attack: Immediate reaction - Close burst 1
Targets: creatures in burst
Attack: +8 vs. fortitude
Hit: for each creature hit by the attack, place 4 illusionary foes (see stat blocks bellow) into play. Each set of illusions can only be seen by the creature that caused them to be put into play. The illusions act on initiative count 0.
Countermeasures
- A character who has been hit by the attack can attempt to disbelieve the illusions using a standard action and succeeding on a DC22 insight check. Doing so dispels the illusionary foes.
- A character who has not been effected by the fungi can use a standard action and a DC24 heal check to dispel an adjacent ally's illusions and render that ally immune to the effects of the fungi for 5 minutes.
- The fungi can be attacked. They have AC 0 and 200hp (vulnerable 5 fire and 5 radiant, half damage from ranged attacks).
- A character can make a DC15 acrobatics check when moving through the fungi to avoid disturbing them.
- Dousing the fungi in water can also prevent their spores from floating through the air properly, reducing the attack bonus to +4.
Illusionary Foes - Level 5 minion skirmisher
Medium fey humanoid (illusion)
HP: 1 (not damaged on a miss)
AC: 20, Fort: 16, Ref:20, Will: 18
Speed: 7
Traits:
Figment: Illusionary foes exist solely in the mind of the creature that they appear to, and are thus unable to effect the outside world in any other than to make attacks against the creature that they appear to. In addition, they cannot be themselves effected by any creatures other than the creature that they appear to.
Standard Actions:
Illusionary blade (fear, illusion, psychic) - At-will
Melee 1 (targets only the creature that can see it), +10 vs. AC, 7 psychic damage, and the target grants combat advantage until the end of its next turn.
Effect: the Illusionary foe shifts 1.
