It wasn't the dust of the road that had her worried. It wasn't the thought that her engine could fail under the baking sun. And for once, it wasn't the fear of her family coming to retrieve her.

For the thought that really scared her right now, was his return. Or for better clarification, his lack of return. He was always so sure, so confident, but something about this new mission, this new piece of information that she herself had brought to the Runwells attention, that had her tank in a knot. The blocked satellites were easy to spot when you knew what to look for, and upon telling her mentor, he'd decided to go. Though he could see she'd had immediate regrets in confiding the new information, as it meant his departure was imminent.

As his charge, he was sworn to council and guide her any way he could, and took her out to the plains for a run of her engine, to clear her mind and to assure her that this was common... normal. He'd taught her to shoot, taught her to be stealthy, taught her right from wrong, quick thinking, and how to fight. But he couldn't teach her how to be fearless, because even he himself still feared.

It was hours before they slowed down from racing up and down the dirt roads, practicing drifting and dodging, a common practice for the two of them when she wasn't training at the Academy. The Celica glanced to her mentor, as he seemed to wear the same constant smile, and in this instance it infuriated her.

"It's useless to worry, you know that right? It does you no good, and only messes with your head..." He mentioned smoothly, the Toyota sighing in response.

"Worrying at least makes it seem like I can do something" She replied, her cerulean gaze focused forward. A chuckle escaped the Runwell, an answer he'd grown to expect.

"You're young... It's easy to think that. But as you grow, you'll learn" He said softly, slowing down further as the sun set at their backs. He smirked as he once more looked to his student.

"I'll come back, and when I do, I'll teach you how to survive" He mused to the Toyota, who smirked back.

"Why can't you teach me now?"

"Because you still have a long life to lead... I know that much. You don't need to know yet"

The Celica only laughed, revving her engine as she shot a smirk to the Runwell, only appreciation and admiration for the car that saved her life. He seemed invincible in that moment, so determined to hold onto life, that death wouldn't dare approach the Runwell.

However, within mere days, Shadow would come to realize that this was their last interaction. His last advice, and his last words to her. He had taught her too few lessons.

What she wouldn't give to hear his advice again.

I love Shadow and Lelands relationship so much, despite only getting 5 seconds of him in the film, I'm still unsure how I managed to get this much lore from it XD Leland was the first car that Shadow trusted after a childhood of pain and abuse, the only one to save her when she was finally ready to die. He showed her a new way of life, that not all the world is so terrible, and shouldn't be given up on. Thanks to him, she grew and rose, and found the zest of life again that she needed to be the car she is today.
His untimely death sent her into a depression, as she felt she lost the one car that ironically was trying to show her the good, only to be killed by the evil. Her progression stopped, and she felt she couldn't move on, and back to square one. This is where Finn stepped in and took over, and continued Lelands teachings, though she never forgot the first car that saved her, in every shape possible.
Even when she's older and has a family, moved thousands of miles away from where they met, he's always in her thoughts, and she wonders what he'd think of her life now. She often ponders what his survival advice would have been, though she only has to look at her husband and children, to get a good idea of what it might have been. There will always be someone that cares.

Also a reminder that all my cars stuff will be posted to my ShadowToyota account!
