Description Return of my guilty pleasure....

I drew this earlier this year, but I'm only just now getting around to finishing it. I've inked it twice; my first attempt didn't scan well, so I inked it with my tablet a second time. I'm not sure if the colors are wonky on my computer screen, but I'm not overly thrilled. I've been meaning to readjust the colors on both my tablet and my computer monitors, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

This redesign for the turtles was inspired by three different sources: the Jim Henson Creature Shop designs from the first live action TMNT movie, Erick Wujcik's role playing game 'TMNT and other Strangeness', and Ray Dillon's Dawn of the Ninja designs. At least the idea behind the redesign with them looking/dressing differently. I've also aged the boys beyond their teens, because teenagers bother me. *LOL* just kiddin'. ...but I did age them into their mid twenties.

Splinter and the Turtles are the © of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird

Nice touch giving Splinter (the rat) a Rat Tail hair style. ^_^

Ya know, I've meant to respond to many of your messages sooner, but honest I've just been all over the place & haven't answered alotta comments actually (or lost track of everything again to might be more exact). Just chilled out after a while somewhere around mid-summer

This looks very cool!! TMNT is ever too awesome!
I hope we'll get to see more of this guilty pleasure! Just to let you know. we love seeing them! ^_-

I especially like Leonardo's build. Somehow if he were a human character, I'd say he end up looking the most serious-minded pretty-boy of all of them. (Ah well he's the most serious-minded to begin with).

I got Don & Mikey confused though. I guess the same color mask is intentional, but kinda had to look hard to figure out who was which. But that may be an issue with the moniter I guess, sometimes I'm having that problem to. My old moniter used to have this option on it where I could adjust the lighting & contrast with just the pressing of buttons on the screen. But my new LCD doesn't have this convenience, & I'm too lazy to go the control panel & adjust the brightness etc.

And Splinter looks especially awesome. I like his pony-tail.
The way you drew him, it has this sort of kind of slight "slant" to the drawing that kinda makes me think of old japanese art. I bet it'd look extra interesting if you put a slightly translucent stock-photo of japanese cherry-blossom trees & garden behind them. It'd kinda look reminiscient of old Japanese art a bit, which is appropiate for TMNT.

Well this was almost a whole critique. But maybe I'd use that feature the next time (for the first time)if it's available. Oh! Don't forget to submit/show this off to some groups!

Leo got hit with a touch of my love of Assassin's Creed. I did stop myself from making the hood white ...it probably would have better fit his personality, but come on, NINJA!? wear black, ya fool! I might change the hand and foot wrapping to black so he's not so identical to Donny.

Mike and Donny got the traditional original TMNT red masks because I like that better than the colored masks. I figured their different builds and different weapon choices would clue people in to who they are.

The background is two different textures overlayed, I'm not even sure where I got both images, but neither of them are cherry blossoms. I didn't even think it looked that way... interesting.

I'll let the turtle fans add this to whatever groups if they see fit.

Well that explains why Leo looks especially cool in this picture! It works for him.

I think it was just my own perception at first glance, but I noticed after a while. Mikey's smile & skateboard do speaks for itself.

I prefer the color coding thing with them. It's just easier for me. But red headbands is cool in this picture.
I like the different builds thing as well. Somebody else did that to. I think his name is Enrique (I forget. I'd link if I remember his DA link. )

I meant adding a light tanslucient cherry blossom tree backdrop to the background that's already there, might look kinda interesting. Somehow it'd give it a more traditional japanese feel I think. Like a scroll telling the legend of these 4 warriors or something.

I Hope they do! I take it they added the other one?

The first time I ever saw different builds and faces was with the first live action movie. They even made Mikey a little pudgy because he eats more pizza than the others. *LOL*
You should check out Dawn of the Ninja's website. or Ray Dillon's dA page (if I could remember what it was)

A few groups really liked the Raph and Ninjara one I did a few years back. And I love that everyone loves it.

The first movie was a work of art!
I think it was the best of Jim Henson Creature Shop's works (or one of the best, I'm also thinking Dark Crystal, which I have yet to see in its entirety). Yet when they had documentaries on Jim Henson, they always neglected to mention the TMNT movie.
Maybe he may have already been suffering with cancer (I think it was)at the time of making it, but I wonder if all the work he was putting into making the TMNT believable as live & real characters did him in. ..not that I meant to be morbid or anything, but that he was dedicated to his craft rather. By that I mean there was probably alotta staying up late nights & all-nighters & not eating enough etc. when he was in a vulnerable state.

Thanks I'm checking out those sites after this.

That's cool! Loved that one to! I want to see more fanart of TMNT from you!
I should check out one of those groups & submit this new one to their favorites!

This is so cool! I really like these re-designs, I'm a fan of the 2k3 show but your style looks so much more realistic.

Awe, thanks. I probably going to do some more stuff with these designs.

I never got into the newer cartoon. There are things about it that just annoy the heck outta me, maybe because I was introduced to TMNT through the 80s cartoon. I'm an old TMNT fan-gal.

Maybe I just caught a bad episode. I did pick up one of the graphic novels based on the newer show's character designs and it wasn't too bad a story.
