Description
"My daughter,"Mocha-brown eyes fluttered open, long black lashes gently tickling her skin. The owner, a female with long red hair and a lithe body, slowly sat up, using her arms to keep herself steady. She was young, perhaps nineteen or so. Her eyes like melted chocolate searched the white around her. There was nothing but white... looking down at herself, she realized she was dressed in a white short-sleeved shirt and long white slacks, comfortable clothes. She sat forward and raised her arms, looking at her flawless skin. Her scars... they were gone! "What's- where am I?" Lifting her head and looking to her left, the redhead saw another person who was dressed in a long, elegant white wedding gown, the veil thrown back to reveal her beautiful features. "Mom?" The redhead's pale lips formed the word slowly. Getting to her feet, the young girl walked towards the woman, but stopped when her foot fell further than she expected, into a small stream that separated her from her mother. She looked down at her submerged bare foot, un-moving. "Mother... where am I?"
The woman tied her fingers together in front of herself, over her stomach. "Do you remember my stories about "the limbo?"
"Limbo? You mean I'm dead?" The redhead asked, slight surprise evident in her tone. Her mother nodded slowly. "Yes, Akani. But you can still go back. Stay on that side of the river." Akani was quick to step out of the river, back to the side she first found herself on. She looked on at her mother, and her eyes softened. "You mean... I can choose?"
"Of course." Her mother smiled reassuringly. "Your spirit is free right now, you can do anything you wish. Wander earth, stay here, or come with me. But if you come here with me, your decision is final." Akani touched two fingers to her bottom lip, then said, "Mom? Will you miss me?"
"I have missed you for fourteen years, my daughter. But... someone is calling you louder than me." The redhead blinked, looking up. Above her she could see familiar green eyes and orange hair. "Goma?" Akani asked aloud. "He cannot hear you." Her mother explained, stepping up to the edge of the river. Akani slowly looked back to the graceful woman in front of her. "I can't... hug you, even?" A shake of the woman's head made the nineteen-year-old's heart sink. She could only speak to her unless she gave up her friends and make-shift family. Dropping her hands to her side, Akani took a few steps back. "I'm sorry, mom."
"Don't be, my love. You deserve to keep living. It was my time. But it's not yours- I know you have more to do." The redhead nodded in agreement, smiling a bit sadly. "I'll see you someday."
"Don't rush for me, my dear. Time is no obstacle for me." The late mother assured, waving goodbye as her daughter looked up at Goma, and slowly faded away from her mother's view. The woman hung her head and gave a soft sigh. "I'll miss you more than you know..." She said softly. "Be safe my dear, dear daughter.
And happy."
