Description
The Dimension Railways 6300 class was a class of 71 4-4-2 Atlantic Class Steam Locomotives built to work passenger and some freight traffic throughout the dimensions. The prototype, shown here in DR Green, was a 6100 Class locomotive that was nearly destroyed in an accident concerning a hill and a bunch of rocks. The engine was towed back to Baltimare and given, as I would call it, "The Henry Treatment". Everything about the class was reexamined and checked. The two inside cylinders were replaced with two slightly larger outside cylinders with outside Walschaerts motion, making maintenance easier, although one single cylinder was kept for extra power. That tiny slim boiler that couldn't hold pressure, replaced with a slightly tapered boiler with a boxed firebox based off of LMS practice. The drafty cab, give that windows. Raise the running plate above the valve gear to attempt to stop hotboxes from occurring at speed.Next thing we know, the new design rolled out of Baltimare's workshops and after testing, proved its worth against older 4-4-0's and the 6100 Atlantics. Word is spreading about the rebuilding of all 6100's as they go in for maintenance. Basically, do what Swindon did and turn something old into something new.
