Spring! Spring! Spring!

Written by- ShadowTHFan

"Whooo! Free!" A young hedgehog shouted in joy as he ran out of the front door, a trail of petals from the flowers where ever he went was stirred up furiously. The young 4-year-old blue hedgehog only stopped when he heard a familiar shout from the house.

"Sonic!"

It was his father. He wasn't mad but he was stern so the young hedgie knew it was best to listen. Quietly, he ran over back to where his dad stood, looking up at him anxiously.

His father gave a sigh and a faint smile, while looking down at his son. "Didn't I tell you to wait for me to atleast exit the house before you ran off?"

Sonic frowned a little and looked around, then returned to look up at his dad looking ashamed of himself for disobeying his orders. "You did, daddy. I'm sorry..."

"Ah...don't look at me like that, son. I'm not mad." His father Jules crouched down a little, giving a quick hug to his young son. "I'm sure you're excited to get out here and enjoy the warm weather, huh?"

Young Sonic's face brightened up, "Yeah!" This earned a soft chuckle from his father.

----
They arrived at their destination-- the clean and fresh lake now in sight. It wasn't Sonic's favorite spot because of...well the lake in general, but fishing didn't involve getting in the water, so Sonic was very happy about that!

"Well, what spot you wanna get?" His dad asked, gazing around the edge of the lake.

Sonic opened his mouth to speak to his father but when a butterfly suddenly landed on his nose, he blinked in surprise and stood still. A soft laugh escaped from him. "It tickles!" He waved both arms wildly, causing the butterfly to fly away. "Wait... no! Come back!" The young hedgehog called out, but of course, the little creature did not obey his wishes and Sonic chased after it.

Jules walked over to a nearby tree and set down his things, letting their fishing poles lean against the tree. He looked over to his son who was trying to catch the butterfly who was just hovering above his head then when he jumped up to grasp it, the butterfly flew on ahead and Sonic ran after it. "Sonic, don't go too far, you hear?"

"Ok!"

With a shake of his head and a smile on his face, Jules took a seat on the grass and got out the box of supplies that were needed for fishing. However, a sound of a cry interrupted his task. "Sonic?!" Quick on his feet, Jules rushed over to follow the sound of the familiar cry. His search didn't last very long...

Right infront of him, his son had fallen and from what he could see... his right foot was stuck in between a root of a big tree nearby. "Daaaddd!" He whined, as he tried with all his might to free his foot.

"Hang on... don't move it." Jules calmly instructed as he crouched down to examine the problem. Seeing how bad it was caused Jules to bite his bottom lip, it was wedged in there pretty good. "Maybe I can cut the root... I should have a knife around. Don't you try to move it, ok?"

In response, Sonic whined a little. But not being able to move his leg at all was even worse! However, he trusted his father fully and would let him take care of it. He always knew how to solve things... so he could solve this!

Moments later, his father returned with a knife in one hand. Hazel eyes focused on the task before him. The root of the tree was thick but maybe if he could find a weak spot he could possibly get his son's foot free. "Alright, while I do this...you need to be absolutely still, you hear me?" His eyes fell on the Sonic's face that was stained with fresh tears.
