We stood in front of the minister's office, Angie and I stood side by side, waiting for Hiro's meeting with the minister to be over. It was a bit nerve racking, to be waiting for what mission we were to be sent on. The hallway was filled with fellow Keepers in their scarlet uniforms, I believed that they were all waiting for their leaders to come out of the room. I counted, around thirty, maybe forty, all waiting for their leaders, captains to emerge from that room. I hadn't realized that today might be the day where everybody receives their assignments. In a way. it makes sense, saves a lot of time handing them out one by one. Then again, I don't really know what goes on behind those walls. I hardly call the first time in there a learning experience.

Another half hour past, leaving me with a sickening feeling. Anticipation was starting to make me nervous, what was awaiting for him beyond that door. Impatient murmurs were now starting to fill the room.

    "What's taking them?"

    "How much longer?"

    "I don't like this."

"What's taking him so long? Nearly three hours have past, we were the first ones here. He should have been out by now." That came out more whiny and impatient than intended, but the annoying body-less voices were starting to rub off on me.

"Well, assignments are given out when all team captains are present in the room, and each assignment is explained when assigned, that way if the situation is worse than expected, the cavalry arrives, they will already know the gist of it. Not only that but they are briefed on the current state of affairs on Dragons, last I heard they were cutting of supply shipments to some of the sanctuaries." I swear I saw her shiver, "The meetings usually don't last this long though... Something must be off." Angie admitted.

"Has the situations with the Dragons been getting worse over the years?" Curiosity got the better of me. Arms crossed, I started to survey the expressions of my brothers in arms, their expressions were grim, they were expecting the worst. Was it that bad? I know the Dragons were enemies to the Keepers, but I always thought that the Keepers kept them at bay, but from the look of it... It looks like we were on the losing end. The thought of the Dragons winning sent shivers down my spine. The way people talked about the war between the Keepers and the Dragons was disturbing, it was obvious that they lost much

"A lot worse. Twenty years ago their activity spiked and so has their attacks. They even lead a successful siege against one of the sanctuaries. The site has been abandoned and classified as cursed." She held her arms and avoided my gaze, no, not just mine. I noticed that everyone's attention was on us. The room was dead silent. Listening to what she had to say, as if hearing it out loud is solidifying the situation we were in. "Since then... moral has been low here. Not many believe in the cause." She spoke quietly, hoping to avoid the other's attention. "Our numbers have decreased drastically as well. Many fall to ambushes, as if our assignments weren't dangerous enough." If the room's mood wasn't bad enough, saying it out loud just sure as hell made it worse, I felt guilty bringing it up. I never realized the position we were in, or to put it better, how screwed we were. I was a Keeper for only a month and by the sounds of it, I might not be one for much longer. I slumped on the wall behind me, the sudden realization dawning on him. I needed to be vigilant on this assignment because from the sounds of it, it might be my last.

A surge of people exited the room not long after that. Immortals crowded the already full hallway. I watched as the hallway expand and enlarge, according the amount of people. It was like watching those time lapsed videos, where years of growth sped up to  couple of seconds. Each room, hallway, entrance of the Keepers headquarters was enchanted to change size to fit everyone in that space. The building was enchanted to the teeth.

I couldn't see Hiro in the crowd of his peers. All of them crowded around us, looking for their team. A burst of noise came along with them, as they called for their friends. Despite the rooms growth, there was too many people. All of them crowding, shoving, pressing against us. Despite the rooms growth, It felt as if there were far too many people were in this hallway. I started to panic, seat ran down my face. Too many people. "Angie, I'll be waiting outside." Without listening to her response I exited the building.

I sat on the steps of the building, inhaling the fresh air like it was the last one I would take. Slowly, my heart rate returned to normal and my breathes calm. "Dammit." I muttered under my breath.
