Rose clutched the letter Smokey Quartz had given her. She was told it was only to be used should Spessarite prove unreasonable, and that if she could, Rose was to avoid using it even then. But the problem was, she knew Spessarite, not well, and not personally, but well enough to know she likely would not just listen to her and turn on her partner. Carefully she put it away again and proceeded to walk through the grave yard of gem ships. She knew one of these was Spessarites home, but finding it was proving difficult, Smokey had given Rose the assignment early in the day, something that should have only taken a couple of hours, but it was closing on evening now and she’d been through over two thirds of the ships.
Entering yet another ship Rose called out “Hello? Spessarite? It’s Pink Pearl are you here?” she asked as she ventured inside and began walking down the halls. This ship looked slightly more lived in then the others, for starters it had lights in the halls, and there was far less debris cluttering the floor. That was an improvement.
Spessarite took this opportunity to finally arrive, Rose would call it luck, but again, she’d been checking ships since early this morning, it was now late evening. Luck had been officially ruled out. “Pinky, I don’t want a pearl. I don’t NEED a pearl. So just…..” Spessarite stopped herself, she realized she was being cruel, there was a time she had pearls, so she knew that pearls needed owners, they felt terrible when they didn’t have one and telling her to just go figure out how to function on her own would have been cruel but honestly, she wasn’t sure what else to say at this point. Pink Pearl and her never got on, so the fact that she was here now probably meant that Spess was literally the last gem on the planet for her to try.
Rose blushed “It’s not about that….. I….. someone said they saw you with a new gem, from Home world” she said nervously as she averted her gaze.
Spessarite blinked as realization sank in. Pink Pearl was Pink Opals pearl, and both served under Rose when she rebelled, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to imagine that Pinky was worried that, just because her mistresses mistress committed treason she might be held acoutantable as well, after all Pink Opal didn’t side with home world. She didn’t side with Rose either but she was in rose’s court so it certainly wasn’t a stretch. “Yeah, she’s from home world” Spessarite looked around carefully “Look I won’t tell her about you or the others, to be honest? She wouldn’t care even if she knew how to find you”
Rose nodded “umm. Can I talk to you some where more private?” she asked, having noticed the way Spessarite looked around first. Smokey told her to make sure Azezulite didn’t know about this meeting.
Spessarite sighed but nodded and lead the way down a hallway and into one of the ships many rooms where she closed the door. She had a decent idea about what Pinky’s pearl wanted to talk about. “okay kid, look, I know you’re a pearl, and I know your worried home world will hold you accountable for what Rose Quartz and Pink Opal did, but they probably won’t because you’re a pearl, honestly all you have to do is say that you did as you were told, if it comes to it, I’ll back you up on that” Spessarite reassured the lost pearl. She might not have any strong feelings for her, but she didn’t think Pink Pearl deserved to be executed just for doing what a pearl was supposed to do.
Rose shook her head “I’m not here about that. I met a gem. They said they knew ‘Azezulite’ and that she’s not well. That she’s very dangerous and needs help”
Spess narrowed her eyes. Ok, having fused with Black Azezulite, yes she could defiantly agree, Az wasn’t well, she was messed up inside, but the only gem she could think of on earth that might know that was probably Azezulite’s target Smokey Quartz. “I see, and what did this gem want you to do?”
Rose pulled out a string bound book of thirty or so hand written pages “she wants you to fix her. She said you might be the only one who could, so she wrote this”
Spessarite took the ‘book’ and began flipping through the pages. It was detailed, covered a lot about fusion, about what one might find if they fused with Azezulite, different scenarios, and possibility’s, solutions for each of them, translations of what everything in the mindscape could mean depending on how it looked. Whoever wrote this knew a lot about Azezulite, and a lot about fusion. If Spess had to guess the gem behind this book was either a fusion master, or someone who had fused with Azezulite frequently in the past. Of course, all of this was far to convenient for Spessarite. From what Az had said, the gem was a master at deception, and these instructions went way over Spess’s head. She could fallow them but it could easy be some kind of Trojan horse to topple Az from the inside out. “and who gave this to you. No, actually I know who gave this to you Pink. Why should I trust this gem over Azezulite?”
Rose looked at Spessarite. “Because she wants to help Azezulite more then anything. She feels responsible for what happened to her and she desperately wants to fix it” she pleaded
Spess sighed as she shook her head. Pink was sold on the idea, but honestly if even half of what Azezulite had told her about Smokey Quartz was true, well manipulation was her strong suit, she specialized in assassination and sabotage. “sorry pink, but it’s to convenient”
Rose looked down at her feet as she took out the letter Smokey had given her, a ‘last resort’ she’d called it “She said if you didn’t believe her, that you should read this and then destroy it” Rose pushed the letter into Spessarites hands before taking a step back hoping her mistresses fall back plan would work
Spessarite raised an eyebrow but humored the pearl as she opened the envelop and pulled out the letter. What she saw took her breath away.
“To the recipient of this letter: The gem delivering this letter answers directly to me, and you are to treat their orders as priority A-2, only to be superseded by the direct orders of a diamond in the field.
The gem known as Black Azezulite is mentally unstable due to physiological torcher and is in need of treatment. Any battle plan received is to be considered personally authorized by myself and fallowed to the letter.
Signed
Silver Diamond, High Fleet Admiral of the Imperil Navy”
Spessarite looked the letter over again and again. It was signed, bore the personal seal of Silver dimond, and was, in every way that Spess could see, legitimate. This could only mean a few things Spessarite reasoned. Either A) Smokey Quartz could forge the personal orders of a diamond, B)had taken a batch of pre-signed and sealed orders, C) Silver Diamond had betrayed home world and was working with Smokey Quartz, or D) Azezulite was a rouge agent. Three of the possibilities were honestly to terrifying to imagine, the fourth was reasonably believable, and the least terrifying option. Spess didn’t know Silver Diamond personally, but she knew her reputation and her record. She was a terrifying tactician and strategist, she took worlds everyone else had given up on, and she did so with impossibly low losses, hundreds of dead gems to hundreds of thousands of organics. “Alright. I’ll play along. Is there anything else?”
Rose nodded and handed Spess a slip of paper with a date and a location “she said she’d set up everything else, just be here on that day”
