Description
Behold, the largest shark to have ever lived. Carcharocles megalodon. This giant shark was a member of the family Otodontidae. I like to draw it with a short snout, like what they did in The Meg, because it wasn't an oversized great white. It is very likely to have been shaped differently. For instance, it would have had a broader tail fin to thrust through the water. Its pectoral fins would have been bigger to keep it off the bottom, and its blunt snout could still reduce drag. I like to think that the great white is more like a missile, a small object meant to go fast, while megalodon was more like a submarine, reducing drag the way a huge object would. This body plan can be seen in whales and large fish, like whale sharks and basking sharks. Sure, they may be filter feeders, but megalodon still could have their body shape to move through the water. I imagine megalodon looking like a hybrid between predatory mackerel sharks and really large sharks like whale or basking sharks.Oh, and if you're wondering why Sayori is in there, I put her there for size comparison. Also, because she's so cute. Don't worry, she's in no danger of being eaten by the megalodon. She's too small to be worth chasing for a large shark like megalodon, which, while it will attack whales smaller than itself, likely needed to take on whales about its size or even larger to truly sustain itself. So it probably wouldn't mind a boop or pet on the nose.
