Once upon a recent time
a girl believed in fairy tales
her boyfriend read her one each night
and she would sleep deep, sleep tight

She would leave her bed and reach the sky
and touch down soft in far-off lands
with shining princes and wondrous friends
she wouldn't care if it all made no sense

And she would awake at the early dawn
Sadly, in her bed and in her room
But happy, knowing when night came
her fairy tale would be the same

But one night her boyfriend lost his book
and refused to read to her anymore
and she cried until she fell asleep
For weeks and weeks the girl did weep

Now she doesn't believe in fairy tales
it's rare to hear her laughter
but someday she'll find her shining prince
and they'll live happily ever after
