Neat-o! I've had a tough time with the leather that I have (it's super thick). What's the best way to cut it?

Change blades often and if you are not all yet comfortable with the blade it's allways better to just gently cut a thin line along the patterns first and them cut deeper and deeper every time (alittle more timeconsuming, but if you want it made good and not fast thats the way to go
