Description
During the French Revolution, arguably the most extreme faction was a group known as the Enragés (lit. "The Enraged Ones") or the Ultra-Radicals. Hostile to both the Jacobins and the Hébertists, the Enragés considered practically everyone else to be too moderate and as such were beloved by the radical Sans-Culottes. A common slogan of their leader (Jacques Roux) was: "how can one be a moderate in pursuit of liberty?" The Enragés would ultimately fall into obscurity after Roux took his own life in 1794 after being summoned to the Revolutionary Tribunal.
