Hm. For me the upside is that every time you restart you get to see your friends again and each experience can be different if you make different choices. The down side is, you do want them to have their happily ever after, but to do so means you aren't a part of their world anymore and you feel guilty restarting without completing the pacifist ending. The genocide ending is also a downside, though a cathartic cry if you need it.

Two words:
Dark Souls.
Upside: Crippling depression about never going to find a game that can get to the same heights as Dark Souls, Decreased interest in other games that aren't Dark Souls or similar games from the same creators (a.k.a. Bloodborne), you don't need another game as best game because Dark Souls will stand up out of bed with it's jimmies russled ready to spank the shit out of you at mach speed for not dedicating your all to itself.
Downsides: What do you mean downsides? Seeing crippling depression as the one true characteristic about yourself makes you forget negative things exist.

Ye. Perfection is a myth. Undertale isn't perfect, The Last of Us isn't perfect, Dark Souls isn't perfect, nothing is.Β
Yet people can't shut up about it because they find it the perfect game for them.
I can't agree on undertale being the perfect game for me. I want a main character with more than 3 animation keyframes thank you kindly.
I just don't like the artstyle and the humour of the game at all... Yes, that is holding me back, why? The ones granting the humour are the characters, I don't like the humour nor the characters.Β
I was able to get into Life is Strange way better, but hey, everyone got their preferences.
I love Dark Souls but I won't take every moment of every day to wave that in everyones faces :lΒ

Actually, there are a lot of games that deal on other topics that better than Undertale, in my opinion.
To name a few?
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream (That's the game's name, no, really. )
System Shock 2 (Regarding on making a good suspense. )
The Witcher Games ( A game's more than a storyline, if you wish to presume perfection or something like that.)

(Well, this ain't a reply to me, but since is a coward and ran away, all I could do was to reply this way. )
I have a question for you regarding actual games...
Do you understand video games as a form of art and entertainment rather than a simple form of emasculating anyone who has an opinion?
Undertale is a good game, I am not denying the game its quality or story in any way or form.
After all, I have it in my steam library and played through all of the possible endings.
But well, let's begin the the explanation of some of these games I've mentioned and possibly you've never even played through.
The first suggestion was a god-send on the time it was released, where games were not featuring such good stories. Β While games like DOOM had crap stories but fun gameplay, this game came forward,Β showing that games could have interesting stories, disregarding gameplay over showing a story with themes of morality, suicide and much more darker motives. Considered by all game critics to be an exceptional game, not just me.
The second game, System Shock 2, is considered by many of the old era of gaming, a classic horror RPG which brought forth a very inspired era of videogame storytelling and much more gameplay mechanics that are still being used today. Let alone one of the first classic villains in Videogame history.
The third game is... Well, what it is, an awesome example of well-crafted stories and gameplay that got a GAME OF THE YEAR award. I'm not saying it is better than Undertale, everyone is.
But... If you're just going to bash on my abilities to speak english, what can I do other than just shake my head in disapproval?
You're not fit for any sort of dialogue, I don't even understand how you manage to discuss with your family every day.

Your first suggestion is a shitty game based on a much better, and far less time-consuming, short story. The short story should be read, and the game avoided like the plague.
Your second suggestion is a boring game and nowhere near as imaginative or mechanically sound as Undertale.
Your third suggestion is actually good, but the reason you think why is all over the place, and some of the worst English I've ever seen to boot.
Perhaps next time don't be an asshole.

I do! And better than you do. For example, I *don't* think Undertale is the best game ever made, and yet, I didn't feel the need to shit on someone who did and mansplain idiotic recommendations that don't hold a candle to Undertale.
Been gaming since the early 80s, kid. I've been all about game mechanics, games as art, and games as expression for likely longer than you've been alive.
