Just an idea for a universe I've had rattling in my head lately.
Namely one that "centers" around the daughter of a super villain trying to gain world domination. But because he's so bent on it he sort of shoved the responsibility of raising her to his robots.

Maria on the right, Valentyna in the middle, Smoke on the left

Valentyna, Val for short, is Maria's best friend and one of the few people privy to who her parents are.

Smoke in this universe is one of Maria's main caretakers. Ninja robot dad.
What does "not registered" mean? See in this universe robots need to be registered with the Global AI and Robotics Comity (GAIRC). This comity tracks things like date of activation, what the robot was created for, current residence, etc. Not to Big Brother levels and the list is open to the public but enough to rub some people the wrong way. While you don't have to register a robot with the GAIRC, forgoing to is considered extremely sketchy. Doesn't help most NR's are criminals.
TL;DR: Global robot comity has no info on Smoke beyond him existing and working for a bad guy.
