Description
As a preteen, Lucas found a lost baby orca whose pod was attacked by whalers, leaving him stranded and alone. He led the orca to a beach site where his father, Dr. Leo Remy and his brother, Richard were working. Richard immediately disliked it, but their father allowed Lucas to keep it. In addition, he names the whale Willy and the two bonded, similar to the bond between Jesse and the original Willy in "Free Willy".

Here's a plot twist, Willy got sick and injured because of Richard's reckless misuse of his father's laser equipment that also almost got him killed in an accidental explosion. Richard tried to blame Willy for the incident in an attempt to banish him, but when his father saw how it really happened, he and everyone defended Willy for risking his life to save Richard from drowning. Dr. Remy defies a cure for Willy which healed him. Not only that, but it seemed to have given him a voice to speak with, a side effect of the cure Dr. Remy never suspected. This immediately surprised and amazed everyone, but Richard expresses no interest. And when everyone refuses Richard's final demand to get rid of Willy he chooses to leave his father and brother to live with his mother in Boston.

The rest of the plot is that of the Kong 2016 Netflix series.
