I only saw the first few episodes of Amphibia cartoon from season 1 when it's first premiered in 2019 from what I can remember. It's not until 2023 where I decided to give Amphibia second try and I managed to complete watching the cartoon almost one week ago.

Anyways, let's talk about the animation on Amphibia. While the animation style on the characters of the show is nothing special (just standard thin style lines), the background parts of the show is the most beautiful looking background that I have ever seen in any cartoon ever from all cartoons that I have watched so far. I said it before that the animation on the characters is nothing special. However, there are times where Amphibia crew managed to craft epic battle scenes.

The animation of this show is pretty great. How about the writing of Amphibia? Well, it's very interesting. Season 1 is episodic mostly. I would say only Toad Tax, Prison Break, Anne of the Year, and Reunion can be considered as serialized episodes. Does that mean other episodes than those four are not worth the watch? No. It's still worth to watch other episodes than those four for Anne's character development and the worldbuilding of Wartwood Swamp. Season 1 might be a very enjoyable season but season 2 is even better. Season 2 features new characters (such as Marcy) and new locations (such as Newtopia). What I love about season 2 is that the filler episodes on this season are even better than the filler episodes of season 2. The stakes are on season 2 are much higher. Let's just say that there very shocking twists on season 2. Season 2 is such an amazing season. Into Season 3 now. While Season 3 isn't as memorable as season 2, its at least on par with Season 1 in terms of writing quality. Season 3A is much better than Season 3B due to a mix between comedic and serious stories but the last three episodes from Season 3B is better than every episode on Season 3A.

The writing is great for mixing between episodic and serialized episodes. Let's talk about the character in Amphibia. They are mostly very entertaining to watch. My top 3 favorite characters on the show are: #3 Marcy Wu, #2 Sasha Waybright, and #1 Anne Boonchuy. Marcy Wu might be an undeveloped character but Sasha and Anne have gotten huge character development (Anne especially). It's very rare to see the main protagonist from some cartoon that has gotten huge character development as much as Anne. She started with jerk with a heart of gold personality to an all-loving hero character.

Overall, Amphibia is an amazing (8,5/10) cartoon. While I have some minor issues with the show on handling it's character developments and the pacing, Amphibia is still an example on how to make a very good serialized cartoon like Gravity Falls. It's a show that I definitely recommend to watch.
