Description Oh to be a synthetic animal only concerned with passing down its DNA in a world full of things that sound delicious.

Daddy Long Legs, Rain World. Quick paint

These abominations are an ecologically mismatched, incredibly voracious synthetic species, created through a series of very unfortunate developments. Their general success has allowed them to flourish in the habitats they've been placed into--and they owe it to three factors--these animals reproduce fast, can self-replicate when needed, and grow very quickly to very large sizes. They are dexterous and can reach in virtually any direction without even moving--and their boneless, slippery bodies allow them to squeeze their mass into the tiniest of crevices where potential prey may be hiding. By far this world's most successful predator, smaller (and sometimes even larger) carnivores give them the respect they deserve and prefer to avoid them at all costs. They definitely love water, and will commonly gather around areas with suitable pools for moisture.

Seemingly endless on the inside, they can just about strangle and consume anything they want to--even things much bigger than they are. They have quick metabolisms--needing a very large amount of food to sustain their enormous size. The only living things they seem to ignore are plants--perhaps because they simply create too little noise for the animal to be interested. Though they cannot see, their hearing paints a very accurate 360 degree approximation of their surroundings in their minds. By perceiving how certain noises echo, they can even tell the dimensions of the rooms they're in and what obstacles lie in their way. This way, they can efficiently travel across the terrain--not stumbling around blindly at all. The louder a sound they hear is, the more interesting it is--these creatures tend to investigate regardless of whether or not they think it's prey--though they do hope so. They're surprisingly smarter than they seem like with a bizarre sense of curiosity (which they usually satisfy by tasting any new organism they encounter), but it'd be impossible to befriend one with the amount of food they require. Taking one to sleep with you in your hibernation chamber has been the subject of a handful of utter horror stories.

Just like you, these animals hibernate through cycles, and need an astounding amount of spare energy to do so. The amount of minimum required pips would probably be atrocious. Though they do have a sense of time and can tell when the rain will begin, they certainly like to take shelter at the very last minute. They feel the most comfortable when something is pressing on either side of their body--and they tend to remember where they find adequate cracks and scars in walls and ceilings. It's also around these hidden away spots where they place the polyps that will rapidly grow into new individuals, "infected material" covered in highly durable undeveloped polyps was the reason for their spread into the Garbage Wastes. The ones that stick to walls are simply juvenile individuals who have not become mobile yet.

Originally thought to fight when more than one enters the same territory, they in fact display strange social behavior even from birth. They seem to show no ill-will towards each other, and their offspring even intertwine tentacles across rooms in some sort of friendly gesture of support. Adults will follow each other around, occasionally huddling in small groups and holding one another. It is thought that they may somehow be able to recognize each other through distinct chemical signals unique to each individual, and show forms of grotesque affection to the others they like. They've even been observed showing signs of parental care, with groups of adults tending to and feeding the masses coating their brooding sites. These behaviors may be proofs of their intelligence.
