St. Francis is a saint known for this love of all creatures, especially pets. He is the patron saint of animals and the environment. The order that followed him, the Franciscans, are around to this day, still following the Rule that St. Francis left behind in the 13th century.

He's one of my favorite saints, as a geologist and animal lover. :]
