MORE HOMEWORK!?Yes! more homework, from a halloween flavored assignment in my intro to illustration class. We were assigned the imaginary task of designing street banners for the city of minneapolis, springboarding from a shakespearian quote ripe with spooky undertones and chills. For our choosing we had two from Macbeth, and one that was just labeled "shakespear".
I picked the one about all stuff going into a "hellbroth" from Macbeth, and thus the thumbnails began a flurry of sorcery and crazy looking witches twisting sinuously around a cauldron and what have you. Some involved the cauldron chasing the ingredients, which were delightfully silly.
That said, I honestly have no idea how the hell this idea happened.
A lot of the thumbnails, like i said, had to do with the witches tossing monsterous creatures into the witchpot. But then i had a few with the nanimals in cages and stuff.. so i guess from there the cages became the interior of a pantry.. in an unassuming grandma kitchen.. with an apparently unassuming grandma.. with a very scary secret... O O
DONT EAT THOSE COOKIES, UNASSUMING GRANDKIDS!!

lol i love hoiw the flies are in their praying that was ingenious to add i almost didnt notice it. all the animals look so sad and scared i feel bad for them! but the granny/witch is definitely meniacle and evil. run kiddies!

This is amazing! You are brilliant, brilliant. I love the style of the characters, and the coloring.
But I don't understand how outside of the cabinet is angled... while the cabinet is not on the same angle.. am I just crazy?

You could probably make amazing illustrated books for children. It has a huge emotional impact, but it isn't to harsh. It's perfect. Love the concept.

Beautiful colors, and good use of eyes to expess the HORRORS of being animals waiting to be baked. Good expansive view too. But I feel there's too much empty space up top. Also, I don't see any cookies anywhere--is the little girl holding them? Got to remember, an illustration has to talk for itself.

My first thought was "Aw poor little animals; they're crying" then I thought of Hansel and Gretal. Like a neo-version and much cooler. Then I saw the cat and laughed. Of course it's the cat that's looking at the other animals like "OOH! FOOD!"
