Description Panthera atrox, often referred to as the "American lion", was perhaps the largest feline to walk the Earth. Described as lion-like, it had reddish skin, and it inhabited dry open habitats of the Americas in the Pleistocene period (Chimento and Agnolin, 2017). Its relationship to modern big cat species is very contested in the scientific field. Although originally suggested to be a sub-species of the modern lion (P. leo), there is little contemporary evidence to support this claim. More likely, due to its close relationship to P. leo and P. tigris, is that they are sister taxa sharing a common ancestor (King and Wallace, 2014). This refutes other theories based on its craniomadibular and dental morphology that it may have been a type of giant jaguar (Christiansen and Harris, 2009).

ANYWAY so I'm alive. I was doing some light reading (lol) about a number of extinct species, and was inspired to have a doodle. Hope you enjoy
